DLA submitted a hybrid planning application, on behalf of Wykeland Beal Ltd and Arco Ltd, for a mixed use development that will help reinforce the regeneration of Hull’s Fruit Market area. The ambitious urban regeneration of the Fruit Market is the most significant project of its kind the city has ever seen, designed to create “a unique, vibrant cultural quarter where people live, work and play”.
The proposals included a 5,000 sq m office to be occupied by Arco Ltd as their new headquarters building, a 350 space multi-storey car park and a residential scheme with retail and leisure uses at ground floor level, designed to extend the already lively ambiance along Humber Street.
The scheme substantially bolsters the employment, residential and leisure offer of the Fruit Market area, bringing 500 people to work in this new urban village.
The layout, scale and design of the building has been carefully considered to fit seamlessly within its context, taking full advantage of the tremendous setting and existing views of landmark buildings including The Deep, the new dry dock amphitheatre, the C4DI development and, to the north, the Old Town and Hull Minster.
