BOTTISHAM SECONDARY SCHOOL : CAMBRIDGESHIRE

Sectors : Learning

Client : Morgan Sindall Construction & Infrastructure Ltd

Bottisham Village College is situated in Bottisham Village in the east district of Cambridge just north of the A14. The school site comprises approximately 85,400m² of land and is located to the north-west of the Village. The site falls within the jurisdiction of East Cambridgeshire District Council.

The brief was to design an expansion of the current facilities at Bottisham Village College from a 7FE to 10FE School.

The project included the erection of a two storey extension to the rear of the School, internal refurbishment, new car park to the front of the school, new coach pick up and drop off area to the east of the site, two new flood lit MUGA’s to the rear of the school buildings, improved front entrance and new hard and soft landscaping to the site.

The school site sits upon the threshold between the urban area of Bottisham Village and the wider open countryside to the east. The school site can be seen as acting as a link between these opposing landscapes fabrics, with the school buildings and grounds defining the urban village edge, whilst also acting as a gateway to the wider rural landscape beyond.

The following film was made by former pupils from Bottisham Village College and filmmaker Peter Harmer with support from a dedicated team of Year 8 students of the college.

The film honours the legacy of the Village College founder Henry Morris and showcases the extraordinary new 2018 facilities now in use.

The film focuses on the architecture and design from 17 minutes.
