On the former ”Lumiere” site on Wellington Street, Leeds, DLA Design have helped to deliver a mixed use scheme with offices at the upper levels and ancillary restaurant, shopping and leisure uses at ground and first floor levels.

The scheme has developed through a series of iterations in response to a variety of stakeholder inputs indicating market demand for high quality, sustainable office space with large individual footprints that currently do not exist in Leeds City Centre.

The brief for DLA’s Landscape & Urban Design team required the building to be set in a high quality new public realm. The leisure facilities are set within a ”winter garden” and atrium space that forms an integral part of a new public realm extending across the entire site.

The site is bounded by Wellington Street to the north and Whitehall Road to the south. To the east and west lie two residential blocks, West Point and City Central. The site is located immediately to the south and west of the City Centre Conservation Area. Although this application will not require Conservation Area Consent, the City Centre Conservation area defines an area of special architectural and historic interest. The proposals respond positively to the character and appearance of the surrounding context.
