Sectors : Masterplanning
Client : Strata & Wakefield Metropolitan District Council
This masterplan was developed following a successful OJEU bid for a Framework Agreement to develop housing renewal sites within the Wakefield district over the coming years. The tender included the first development opportunity, a 4 Hectare site in Featherstone.
DLA Design assembled a Consultant Team including Beam (public consultation), Giffords (sustainability specialists), DLA Landscape and Urban Design, DBA management (regeneration management specialists) and Knapton and Knapton, (volume house designers).
The brief required the provision of 270 new homes within a high quality sustainable community, aimed at the regeneration of an area of semi-derelict post-war pre-fabricated housing.
Homes were designed adopt Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3, Building for Life, Lifetime Homes, Secured by Design and Home Zone principles.
Our strategy aimed to link Featherstone Town Centre with the site and countryside beyond, utilising a ‘creative corridor’ of public arts events and installations, including the existing celebrated ‘Bass Relief’, which explores themes of mining, nature and the local community.
