Over the past 25 years, DLA Design have shaped a world class sporting facility, designed to meet future standards whilst maintaining the unique ‘Headingley atmosphere’ at a stadium that has hosted International sports for over 110 years. The masterplan for the phased redevelopment obtained planning approval in 1999, establishing a framework for the redevelopment of the stadium over a 20-year period and in May 2019 the final elements came to fruition.
The new Rugby South Stand accommodates a total of 7,682 spectators, 2,210 of which are seated, the remainder standing. The upper concourse provides access to the central section of the upper seating tier and access to the press room and associated seating/desks in the stand and a lounge for the Leeds Rugby Foundation.
An accessibility area is provided at both pitch level and at the upper concourse level all accessed via a lift.
A large concourse it provided at ground floor level with access to concessions and toilets including a changing places facility.
Changing rooms were provided that were utilised during the construction of the North Stand and will be utilised by schools providing exhibition half time games on the pitch during match days.
Newly laid out car parking facilities/landscape and turnstiles on the site boundary on St Michaels Lane have been provided.
