MORRISONS DISTRIBUTION CENTRE : BRIDGWATER

Sectors : Industry

Client : Wm Morrison Supermarkets Plc

Willow Green Distribution Centre occupies a 59 acre site on a prominent and strategic position in the South West of England, immediately adjacent to the M5. The Regional Distribution Centre (RDC) provides a total of 780,000sqft of ambient, chilled, frozen and bread warehouses together with resource recycling and refuelling vehicle maintenance units. When at full capacity, the RDC can service over 65 stores.

Inspiration for the design of the building came from the local craft of weaving willow, with an aim to create a landmark building for Bridgwater. This was achieved through the use of a natural palette of willow colours.

Reflective of Morrison’s business wide objective to reduce its carbon footprint, the building achieved BREEAM Excellent. This was achieved through the use of photovoltaics, intelligent internal and external LED lighting systems, rain water harvesting, solar thermal heating, air source heat pumps, waste heat reclamation and on-site waste recycling.
