MOTOR VEHICLE BUILDING : BLACKBURN COLLEGE

Sectors : Learning

Client : Blackburn College

DLA were commissioned to prepare Stage C designs for a new motor vehicle building on the former site of the Feilden Street Building. The site is highly prominent and sits alongside the new college car park. The brief for the building was to provide flexible accommodation to allow the college to maximise the space and vary teaching methods as required. The building was treated as a shop front providing views and transparency through the workshops and promoting the use within.

The building is designed to 2,300m² and provides a mixture of motor vehicle workshops, paint shops, MOT bays and a showroom at ground level, with the general teaching and IT spaces at first floor. Interlinking corridors look down into the workshops giving visual connectivity through the building.
