Robert Bloomfield Academy educates pupils from Year 5 (aged 10 to 11) to Year 8 (aged 12- 13). In partnership with its foundation, Bedfordshire East Schools Trust (BEST) and working with Central Bedfordshire Council, Bedfordshire East Multi Academy Trust (BEMAT) worked with DLA and Morgan Sindall to provide a new Year 5 building, enabling the demolition of 3 existing temporary classrooms.

The new building provides eight general teaching classrooms, one special educational needs classroom, WCs and ancillary plant room and storage space.

The new standalone building was constructed during term time and carefully managed to minimise the impact of the construction programme on the existing school campus.

The design strategy prioritises airy well-proportioned internal spaces, immediate access between internal and external amenities and clear visual links between the new building and the existing school campus to promote site legibility. The design also includes the implementation of cross ventilation and natural daylighting to classrooms.
