THE LIFT : THE HUMBER BRIDGE EXPERIENCE

Sectors : Leisure / Masterplanning

Client : Humber Bridge Board

DLA Architecture are currently working on a proposal to develop ‘The Humber Bridge Visitor Experience’. The project was submitted for detailed planning in June 2016. The proposals take advantage of the opportunities for commercial activity made possible by the provisions of the Humber Bridge Act which received Royal assent on 18th December 2013. The aim of the project is to create a an attraction with prolonged visitor dwell time. This will build on and enhance the attraction of the region for tourism and encourage people to combine their visit with other local attractions, such as The Deep, in order to extend their stay. The aspiration is to promote further spending in the area and encourage overnight stays.

From the new visitor centre, the plan is to take tourists to the top of one of the bridge’s 510 ft (155m) high towers.

The project is visitor-led; the key ambition being to deliver a great visitor centre and experience.

The experience has been designed to allow visitors to appreciate not only the engineering excellence of the bridge but also the sublime presence of the estuary it crosses.
