TOWER BRIDGE ROAD : BERMONDSEY, LONDON

Sectors : Homes / Hotel / Leisure

Client : Acorn Property Group / Galliard Homes

The project involved the refurbishment of the existing buildings, providing more efficient residential accommodation, a new Aparthotel, new office and gym.

The buildings were given a face-lift, improving the visual presence of the residential entrances, new stone cladding and curtain walling, altering the top two storeys to the tallest building and adding balconies to the park. The ground floor was clad in Coriam and inscribed with abstract patterns that reference the leather and skin markets, local tanners and leather-dressers, which are part of the rich history of the Bermondsey area.

The Landscape team designed the public realm which included improved links between Tanner Street Park and St Mary Magdalen Churchyard and between Bermondsey Street and Tower Bridge Road. And also includes provision of new paving, new external lighting, the removal of the existing substation in Tanner Street and a generous new public space attracting visitors and potential retail operators. This enhancing and widening of the landscaped public realm creates a new central open space at the “heart” of the site.
