Vangarde in name, vanguard in nature, the 339,000 sq.ft Monks Cross development promised a much anticipated premium retail park and 6,000-seater community stadium in York.

DLA Architecture began work with Oakgate Developments on the new out of town destination across our Architecture, Landscape and Graphics departments in 2012 with completion in early 2014.

Shoppers have flocked to Vangarde Retail Park since its opening, drawn by a contemporary shopping environment featuring flagship store designs from the likes of John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Next flanked by a promenade of popular restaurants. During development, DLA Architecture embraced the concepts produced by the retailers’ architects to inform final store designs and the overall design of the retail park.

The local wildlife has been a key feature in the overall design. The scheme achieved a BREEAM design score of ‘’Excellent’’, highlighting the importance of sustainable development within the greenbelt surroundings.
