DLA’s Landscape & Urban Design team developed landscape proposals for The Victoria Quarter, at the former Albert Road Gas Works Site, as part of a wider redevelopment of the site.
The site-wide proposals include 306 residential units, ranging from 1-3 bedroom apartments and maisonettes to 2 and 4 bedroom houses. Ground floor uses include a small retail unit/commercial space, a residents’ gym, concierge, cafe and a crèche, along with new public open spaces and improved pedestrian links between the Victoria Park, railway station and the local centre.
The landscape proposals for The Victoria Quarter aim to connect the development with the adjacent Victoria Recreation GroundThe proposals are based on the transition of green from Victoria Recreation Ground into the development creating both a visual and physical linkage.
The eastern boundary to the park is bordered by a row of existing mature trees creating a green edge. The basis of the concept involves swirling gusts of wind blowing from the park westwards into the development, rolling and spiralling. The winds blow in leaves from the park scattering their pattern across the open spaces within the development.
