Job Role: Chartered Architect
Since graduating in 2010 David has gained a wealth of experience working in professional practice. David has worked for many award-winning practices on projects ranging from small to large scale; in the commercial, education and residential sectors. His projects have included new build, extension, and refurbishment designs on rural and urban sites, varying in complexity. David loves working closely with clients to deliver buildings that enhance and enrich our built environment through their design, materiality, look and feel. His favourite materials to work with are brick, concrete, and timber, and he is always looking to use these materials in interesting ways to create architecture that is striking and thematic.
David joined DLA Architecture in 2016. He has been predominantly working to reimagine an old printworks at 6-10 Market Road, Islington, London. Originally constructed in the late 80’s, it will be converted into a 45,000 sq ft new London headquarter for a fashion/media occupier through the redevelopment and refurbishment of the existing building. The design looks to work with the existing brickwork while providing the building with a new identity and streetscape and is due for completion in 2021.
Outside of work David enjoys spending quality time with his young family. He enjoys city walks, road cycling and sampling London’s wide variety of coffee houses. A film aficionado, he enjoys the art of film making and is currently working on two screenplays. He is a blog contributor for Cane and Rinse and has also appeared as a guest on their podcast.
Favourite Design / Building:
David’s favourite building is the Lyric Theatre in Belfast by O'Donnell + Tuomey. A building that is the perfect collection of his favourite materials; built with incredible honesty and ingenuity.
