About:
Qualifying as an Architect in 2000, Sue has since completed numerous projects across the residential, hotel, arts, community, and workplace sectors.
She now leads a team of architects and technologists within DLA Architecture Leeds Studio, working together on a mix of projects at different scales and stages of design, as well as overseeing the strategic development of the residential sector within the business.
Always driven and passionate about design, sustainability and community-based projects, Sue has particular expertise in urban regeneration, mixed use city centre developments, work with listed buildings / in conservation areas and in early stage planning led projects.
Her most recently completed projects include Eden Square Coventry, a 344-bed student residential scheme within two grade II listed former hospital buildings and Scala Yard in York which won the Housing Design Awards Build to Rent Category 2019, Yorkshire Residential Property awards and York Design Awards Small Development category 2018. Current projects include the repurposing of the Listed former Drill Hall in York into new residential accommodation, along with a new 20-storey residential tower in Leeds city centre, targeting net zero carbon by 2030.
Sue has acted as design expert witness on planning appeals along with wider professional roles including: a member of the RIBA Yorkshire Housing Group and the Leeds Property Forum Placemaking Group. Sue has a particular interest in historic environments, particularly through the challenge of creating creative re-uses of such spaces and in January 2019 completed a research study on the potential future of retail titled ‘Growing a Cultural Destination’, looking at the potential adaptive re-use of city centre buildings.
