Planning Submitted for a Major Town Centre Scheme Transforming & Refurbishing the Original Electric Works in Woolwich, London

DLA architecture is the lead architect for this major town centre regeneration project in the centre of Woolwich. The planning application submitted on 08 October 2024 for this hectare of brownfield land that is in a pivotal position to connect the town with the historic Woolwich Arsenal and the new Elizabeth line station. The mixed-use development is centred around high quality new public realm, contextual architecture that creates a sense of uniqueness to the town’s history. And follows several months of drop-ins and extensive design workshops with local community groups, the formal public consultation period began on 6 July 2024, and continued until 4 August 2024. The scheme will introduce over 918 purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) units, as well as 420 co living units and 93 affordable homes (70% social rented). It will also preserve the historic Electric Works building fronting a new public square. Amenities will include a children’s nursery, community spaces, affordable workspaces and night time economy uses. Public Art is incorporated into the elevation design with new routes through the site connecting the green spaces, various uses and entrances will create a pattern of new pedestrian friendly pathways throughout the site.

That sense of home is concentrated around the re-imagining of the original Electric Works with quirky green bricks and green cladding”
