Summer Event Installation

01 Introduction

PARK HERE AND PLAY was an ideas competition for the temporary transformation of the public realm outside Leeds Art Gallery.

The project builds on a previous temporary installation delivered by DLA Architecture on St Paul’s Street and the popular pop up park on Cookridge Street delivered by Leeds City Council. DLA worked closely with Leeds Art Gallery & Leeds City Council to organise a competition, open to alumni of Leeds School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture.

02 Context

Together we wanted to inspire residents, workers, visitors, children and families to re-imagine the space. There was something for everyone to enjoy including a program of fun, playful, creative activities and places to sit, eat, relax and play.

“.....This is a superb project to be involved with. It has transformed one of the city’s centres most popular public spaces into a fun, attractive and enticing area, on the back of input from a wide range of leading creative thinkers. The result is an inspiring and inviting space that will be popular with Leeds city centre’s workers, residents, visitors and children alike.....”
