Wingfield Primary School
An outstanding school in the heart of Kidbrooke Village
Learning
01 Utilising offsite construction
In collaboration with Galliford Try, Wingfield Primary school see’s the delivery of a 3FE community Primary School in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The transformational design, delivered through innovative offsite construction techniques developed by Galliford Try and DLA, creates a high-quality educational environment for pupils aged 4 to 11, alongside a dedicated 56-place nursery. The approach enables a modern, efficient and inspiring learning setting that supports the needs of both early years and primary education.
02 Addressing local needs
Part of the Department for Education, Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP), the new school site lies within a wider masterplan of residential development and the scheme is intended to address a projected shortfall in pupil places in the local area.
03 In-keeping with its context
The site is constrained and therefore a three-storey option was approved matching the scale of the proposed residential development. The scheme benefitted from funding from the local authority, enabling us to create a high-quality façade. The use of brickwork and cedar boarding creates an attractive and natural looking building that relates harmoniously to the wider landscape context which will weather softly over time. A series of hierarchical spaces encourages the progression of age groups through the school from the ground floor housing the nursery, through to the top floor housing the older key stage 2 students.
