Austin McGrath
Architectural Assistant
- Location London
Austin completed his Part 2 at the Bartlett School of Architecture and joined DLA in August 2024. Prior to working at DLA, Austin worked on multiple scale projects, including a number of embassies in Sub-Saharan Africa, working for a number of Formula One teams, as well as residential projects across Oxfordshire.
During his master’s program, Austin built his own design tools and software to create completely new workflows that transformed spoken word into buildings, allowing him to design architecture using his voice alone. Doing this not only taught him about programming and designing but also how those outside of architecture can use their native skills to interact with architecture and design.
Austin has led multiple research projects in both the academic space and private sector, including research focusing on Generative AI as a design tool, presenting his findings to industry experts such as Google DeepMind, and producing multiple bodies of research on ruins and the fetishisation of ruins, including a nuclear power plant in Cumbria and a series of sanatoriums in Latvia.
In his free time, Austin is often found in the kitchen planning his next dinner party for his friends. He is constantly finding new recipes but specialises in Italian and Japanese cuisines.
