Phase 2 Wimbledon Place Continues On Site | 135 New Homes Powering Social Impact

Phase 2 of Wimbledon Place regeneration moves forward as an exemplar for sustainable, socially conscious urban development. Phase 2 will deliver 135 thoughtfully designed private apartments, including a mix of studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes. But at the heart of this project lies a powerful mechanism: using private residential sales to directly fund supported accommodation for vulnerable young people in the adjacent Phase 1 YMCA building.  Over 70% of the homes are dual-aspect, maximising natural light and ventilation. Several are duplexes, offering a wide variety of internal layouts across the scheme.

Sustainability is central to the project utilising a number of technologies, including air-source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, and passive thermal strategies, that will ensure low operational energy use.  The project is set to achieve a 75% reduction in carbon emissions and targets BREEAM ‘Very Good’. . Biodiversity is enhanced through green roofs, bat and bird boxes, and a landscaped courtyard that encourages interaction and connection.

“DLA’s approach transformed an unviable brief into a viable and visionary project. Their understanding of how physical space supports lives has made this more than a housing scheme it’s a community asset.”

— Richard James, Chief Executive YMCA

“We are extremely pleased to have been involved in the design and delivery of this very important community asset in Wimbledon. It was very humbling to hear from one of the residents on how her life had been changed by the improvement the new facilities .  Reflecting on the future needs of occupiers in line with the YMCA ‘s charitable ambitions, we believe that we have delivered a future proof, highly sustainable new facility, enhancing Wimbledon’s next generation of first-time buyers with phase 2 of the project.”
