King Street Town House
Re-fit for King Street
Manchester
Leisure
We supported the delivery of the refurbishment at King Street Townhouse, helping realise a refreshed guest experience across key areas of the hotel.
The project included the mezzanine lounge and balcony, ten guestrooms across two floors, the sixth-floor event space and the external terrace. Working with an established design concept, we helped coordinate the refurbishment through upgraded finishes, lighting, furniture and fittings, with existing elements retained, reused or enhanced where appropriate.
01 Site/Building History
King Street Townhouse occupies the former Manchester and Salford Trustee Savings Bank, a Grade II listed building in Manchester city centre. Designed by local architect Edward Salomons and originally constructed in 1874, the building forms part of the Upper King Street Conservation Area.
Over time, the building has continued to adapt. It underwent a ground floor refurbishment in the 1960s, was redeveloped into offices following the closure of the bank in the 1980s, and was later converted into hotel use in 2015. This layered history gave the refurbishment a sensitive context, where targeted upgrades needed to enhance the guest experience while respecting the established character of the building.
02 Project Narrative
The brief was to enhance the hotel’s interiors and guest experience, strengthening King Street Townhouse’s appeal within Manchester’s competitive city-centre hospitality market.
The design narrative was shaped around a “Home from Home Elevated” approach, combining familiarity and comfort with a more refined guest experience. A palette of soft neutrals, richer tones and terracotta accents was used to bring warmth and continuity across the refurbished spaces, supported by refreshed upholstery, upgraded fittings, new lighting, artwork, planting and loose furnishings.
03 Passionate about delivery
Our role was delivery, working with a design concept developed by others, we supported the coordination and implementation of the proposals across guestrooms, hospitality spaces and terrace areas.
The works required a pragmatic approach to refurbishment, balancing new interventions with the retention, reuse and upgrading of existing furniture, fittings and finishes. Through careful coordination, we helped deliver a refreshed hotel environment while respecting the character and operational requirements of King Street Townhouse.
