The Nestlé Product Technology Centre in York is seen as the world centre for confectionary excellence for this global manufacturer; the home of confectionary innovation.

York has famously been at the forefront of new innovations in confectionery for almost 300 years. Since the acquisition of Rowntree Mackintosh Ltd in 1988 the site on Haxby Rd, the original Rowntree factory site has manufactured world-wide confectionary brands such as Kitkat. Wishing to build on this legacy and fuel ongoing leadership in the sector, Nestlé sought to expand on of their global Product Technology Centre.

02 Introduction

Confectionary Perfection

Central to the PTC’s operations is the Pilot Plant, a scaled-down manufacturing facility that facilitates the testing and refinement of manufacturing processes, equipment and new or reformulated products. Additionally, the development laboratory and confectionery kitchen serve as spaces for creating and evaluating new product concepts, ensuring they meet the high standards of Nestlé’s consumers through rigorous sensory evaluations conducted by trained panels.
